NewTV Workshop: Animation Series: Storyboarding

Instructors: Michael Sivak of Clambake Animation
Location: 23 Needham Street, Newton MA 02461
Time: Monday, February 20 & 27, 7-9pm

NewTV is proud to offer four exciting new animation workshops taught by instructors from the award-winning studio, Clambake Animation!

Storyboarding is, in many respects, the most important stage of film/television production. It is where the script is transformed from words on a computer screen into a sequential, visual story. It is where concepts of cinematography, stage-setting, blocking and acting are first realized. This two-class workshop will explore the basic concepts of storyboarding and allow participants to create and review storyboards of their own. Concepts addressed will include: tools, methods and techniques, visual storytelling and narrative structure, shot composition, “acting,” and character development, among others. Following this two-week course, participants will have the basic skills necessary to produce their own workable storyboards and/or animatics and will have a strong foundation in the fundamentals of sequential visual narrative.

Michael Sivak has over ten years of professional experience in narrative and visual storytelling. This includes working as Lead Storyboard Artist for the upcoming Adult Swim series Tight Bros. Also, his narrative writing and short-fictional comics have been featured in a number of international publications including SPX Anthology (USA), Noctua Review (USA), Lazer (Belgium), and Revista Larva (Columbia). He is the founder and editor of Nib-Lit, a semi-regular literary comics journal that features the work of well-known and up-and-coming comics artists as well as scholarly content focused on the sequential arts.
